Questions and Answers

When choosing an online home study program, there are often many questions that may come up. Please review some frequently asked questions, or feel free to call us and speak directly with an admissions specialist.

First you will need to speak with one of our admission specialists over the phone. They will conduct a brief interview to learn a little more about the prospective new student, as well as explain our online homeschool program and how students can benefit from attending an online homeschool. During the interview, the admission specialist will create an application for the student. Upon the application’s approval, the admission specialist will go over the tuition options and collect the tuition over the phone by credit card. The student will then receive an email with their username/password and instructions on beginning the program. It is just that simple!

As a private online home study, we are not required to administer the public school state tests. This allows us to teach a grade level appropriate curriculum, without the primary focus on heavily weighted tests. We do, however, require that each student complete the MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessment test to track the student’s progress and properly advance them into the next grade level.

You may submit your work at your own pace! Each student is provided with up to 10 months to complete a full grade level. The more work you do, the quicker you will be ready for advancement. Students under the compulsory attendance age (set by each state) should be sure to check if there are any local requirements.

We have developed most of our own curriculum, based on State of Florida standards to meet and exceed the national criteria. Certified teachers in every subject area contributed to this development. All of our lessons are available online and accessible 24 hours a day.

Your diploma does not state that The Ogburn Online School is a distance education institution. However, online home study (also known as distance education) is increasingly popular, and you are enrolling in an online home study that is established and meets regional, national, and international requirements for operation and is fully accredited. If you are successful in distance education you should be proud of yourself!

The Ogburn Online School is accredited by several organizations and follows the State of Florida course numbering system, curriculum frameworks, and performance standards. Therefore, our courses correspond in both description and number, making it easier for public and private institutions to determine which courses will transfer. Many of our students have successfully returned to traditional public educational institutions. Each school has its own policies about course transfer.

No. The GED is earned by taking a series of tests administered by an authorized testing agent. Our diploma is an accredited, credit based diploma granted by a private school that is recognized and accepted by colleges and universities nationwide.

This depends on how many courses you already have completed elsewhere and how quickly you complete each course. The program is self-paced. Minimum enrollment per grade level is 15 weeks.

When your transcript is submitted to us, we evaluate which courses will transfer into your program. It is our policy to transfer courses that coordinate in name, number, and/or description if the transcript is sent on school letterhead and is verifiable by our director.

Your high school diploma is sent as soon as you complete the course requirements and pay tuition in full.

Yes, many of our students continue on to post-secondary education. You can apply to the college of your choice, but please remember, you must pass entrance or placement exams at most colleges.

Each branch of the military has its own requirements. You must make a certain score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test and meet other physical and/or age requirements. You may need to complete a semester of college or technical school. Check with your local recruiter.
